Happy National Chocolate Milk Day!

Today, I have a collab with Megan from A Barefoot Gal! We both love having pen pals and agree that it’s hard to come up with decoration ideas/inspiration, so we decided to solve all your life problems (or… some of your life problems)! We’ve come up with two posts filled with pen pal-ish things. You can check out Megan’s post here!

– How to get a pen pal –

For starters, you can look around in the blogging world. Find a blogger that you like, and ask them if they’d like to be your pen pal – most of the time, they’ll say yes! You can also send letters to your local assisted living home and sometimes one of their residents will write back to you! πŸ˜€ Another option is to ask a long distance friend or family member that you don’t get to see often. You could even ask a nearby friend. There are a lot of websites that can connect you with pen pals, so you could try those too!

– Letter themes –

One of the best ways to bring your envelopes to the next level is to try using themes! There are so many themes that you can make with the goodies in your letter. Here are some ideas: galaxy, seasonal, your pen pal’s favorite band/song, their favorite book, their favorite hobby, their favorite color, bakery/dessert, dogs or cats, nature-themed (wildflowers, trees, birds, etc.), succulents and cacti, vintage, and bookish!

– Questions –

If you’re anything like me, the hardest part of writing a letter is coming up with questions! I like to try to spend at least one page replying to my pen pal’s letter. Then, I use the next page to tell them random things and ask questions! Here’s a big list of interesting question ideas. πŸ™‚

What is your favorite pizza topping? Do you collect anything? Have you ever moved? What is your dream job? What is the best part of your week? What is one of your favorite memories? How would you describe your sense of humor? What’s your favorite thing about each season? If you could have any animal as a pet, which one would you choose? Do you like hot dogs or hamburgers better? What’s your favorite holiday? Favorite color combination? Favorite and least favorite school subject? How long have you been writing letters? Who do you look up to/admire? What are the top three countries you’d like to visit? Favorite scent? Favorite flavor of ice cream? What’s your favorite month of the year? If you could travel to any country, where would you go? Have you ever won a contest? Do you play any instruments? Pickles or olives? What have you laughed the hardest about this week? How many languages do you know? Have you ever been to another country? What’s the cutest animal you’ve ever seen?

– Stationery decoration –

There are a lot of ways that you can decorate your stationery to make your letters a little more fun! Here are are two ideas: paint a stripe of watercolor on the edges or doodle around the edges.

You could also stick a strip of washi tape on the edges, or use stickers! To further decorate your stationery, you could use different colors of pens to write with, stain your paper with tea/coffee to make it look vintage, or even type your letter with a typewriter!

– How to make an envelope –

If you don’t have envelopes on hand, never fear – making an envelope is super easy and fun! All you need is a very large piece of paper, scissors, a ruler, and a pencil.

First, draw a diamond on your paper, then draw a square in the middle of the diamond. This square will determine how big your envelope will be, so if you want it bigger, then just draw a bigger diamond! πŸ˜€

Cut out your diamond…

Fold all flaps on the diamond in.

Tape or glue the left and right flaps together on the middle bottom flap.

Now you can fold down your top flap and make sure it folds well! You may need to trim it a little bit if it isn’t even on both sides. πŸ™‚

And there you go – you have an envelope! πŸ˜€

  2. I have been writing to my pen pal for about a year, and our “One year pen pal anniversary” is coming up soon. Do you have any ideas on what I should send her in the mail to celebrate?

    1. That’s so cool! πŸ˜€ Hmm… You could send her a balloon, her favorite candy, you could make some lyric cards where you write the lyrics to some of her favorite songs on a piece of paper and decorate it! πŸ˜€ I hope these ideas were helpful! ❀ Have a wonderful day! πŸ™‚
